The Road to Recovery series has become a unique concept. It is a chance to develop and offer an interactive, therapeutic book directly focused on and targeted at children who are struggling to understand their abuse and the confusing emotions and feelings and thoughts that accompanied it, and in the process, offer them an opportunity to find healing, and open the doors for further communication and comfort in talking about and working through their abusive situations.

What Is Love? is endorsed by the Co-founders of ChildHelp USA, an organization dedicated to providing services and housing to children who have survived abusive situations in their lives, and gives them a safe and comforting atmosphere and environment to begin the lifelong process of recovering from these most personal and sensitive hurts.

What is Love? sensitively defines the difference between healthy attention from a loved one and predatory grooming by an abuser. It captures the confusing and complex emotions that can surround sexual abuse as well as offering hope for the healing heart.

ROAD TO RECOVERY CHILDREN'S SERIES

The Road to Recovery series initiative was born while the author and creator was undergoing his own individual couseling to work through his own childhood abuse recovery. During one session, his therapist suggested to him that he should utilize his creativity and his ability to express himself using the written word so well to create a book to help other survivors who were struggling with issues that he was at the time. For the author, the biggest issue in his recovery at the time was the feeling that if, as a child, there had been someone or something available to him that could have helped him process and understand exactly what he was feeling, someone or something that expressed how he felt and seemed to understand him, perhaps many of the heartaches and sufferings of his life could have been avoided.

From this session the first book in the Road to Recovery series, What Is Love? was born. The author used his ability to connect to and express himself simply and in a childlike manner to write a children's story about a young boy who is working and struggling to understand and make sense of the confusing emotions and concepts surrounding his abuse. He then took this story and created an opportunity for readers to interact with and engage with the story by adding their own thoughts, words, and pictures to help them recognize and connect with those parts of the story that speak directly to them and their personal struggles with childhood trauma and abuse.
